CP English 10 Course Description

This class will address taking a stance and thinking critically through writing and interpreting classic and contemporary American literature. In addition, students will further develop their reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills.

As a student in a College Prep class, you will be required to complete additional reading and writing assignments both in and out of the classroom. We will be moving through texts more quickly and you will often be required to complete reading at home for homework and be ready to discuss the reading the next class period. Additional texts may be added if time allows. The goal of a College Prep class is to, indeed, prepare you for college. A large part of college is self-motivation and responsibility. It is through additional assignments, more complex assignments, frequent collaboration with your peers, and a quicker pace that you will learn these skills. Also, assessments will be weighted very heavily on your grade, as this is the way things are in college. You cannot rely on homework to pass the class. You will need to demonstrate understanding of the concepts.
