General English 12 

English 12 Updates

In the month of September, students will be working on the following standards: citing strong textual evidence in informational text and literature in order to support analysis of text; use parallel structure and varying types of phrases and clauses in writing; preparing for and participating in effective discussion in the classroom. Students will gather background knowledge in order to begin reading Things Fall Apart. This is a novel written by Chinua Achebe that illustrates the challenges and changes that a Nigerian tribe faced as the British began to occupy and rule the country. Students will begin reading the novel by the end of the month. 

What will we be doing in English 12?

  • Texts read this semsester will include: Things Fall Apart and The Prince

  • Close and critical reading strategies for informational text and literature

  • Vocabulary development

  • Grammar practice 

  • Literary Terminology and Figurative Language

  • Writing development 

English 12 Course Description 

This class will address taking a stance and thinking critically through writing and interpreting classic and contemporary World Literature and African American Literature. In addition, you will further develop their reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills.
